South Orange Celebrates Bicentennial
South Orange Marks the Nation’s Bicentennial
On July 5 1976 the village celebrated the nation’s 200th anniversary with dramatic presentations, talks, puppet shows, and exhibits. Among items being displayed was a deed issued during the reign of George III of England, signed by him and bearing the Royal Seal. The deed granted to three persons the land between Kill Van Kull (which separates Staten Island from New Jersey) and South Orange Mountain. The deed was discovered in the mid 1950’s in the Seton Hall University Library
